Did you know that millions of dollars of COVID relief money went right into the pockets of the same members of Congress who passed it?

Jack:

Right now, Congress is pushing trillions of dollars worth of COVID relief out the door. But millions are going right into the pockets of the very same people making the decisions about relief policy.

While small businesses suffered, unable to get PPP loans, businesses owned by some of the wealthiest members of Congress were able to cut to the front of the line. And there’s no way to know which officials—or how many officials—are lining their own pockets with taxpayer money.

That needs to change.

So this week, Representative Katie Porter and I introduced the STOCK Act 2.0, which will require every member of Congress and high ranking government officials to quickly report any financial benefit they get from the government. Whether it be it a loan, a grant, a contract, or a subsidy, it will be public information—so you can hold them accountable.

If you agree that members of Congress should be looking out for your best interests—not their own bottom line—please sign on and become a citizen co-sponsor of the STOCK Act 2.0 today.

You might be wondering where the “2.0” comes from. Back in 2012, after billions of dollars were spent to help the economy, it came out that members of Congress had used information they learned in committee hearings to bet against the market for their own financial gain.

It was unacceptable—no elected or high-ranking government official should be treating public service as a get-rich-quick scheme.

So I wrote and passed the STOCK Act, which makes it illegal for members of Congress and government officials to use insider information to make money on stocks, and required them to publicly report their financial transactions.

Sunlight is a great disinfectant—and right now, we need a lot more of it.

This is a fight we can’t take on alone: Add your name to join us and become a citizen co-sponsor of the STOCK Act 2.0.

Thank you for your support—I’ll keep you posted on our progress.

With gratitude,
Kirsten
