There have been 289 mass shootings in the United States in the first 245 days of 2019.

If David Perdue and Mitch McConnell continue to go along with the NRA’s wishes and block any action, we can expect more than 500 mass shootings between now and January 3, 2021. That’s the date the next Congress will be sworn in – and the Senate must have a Democratic majority if we are to make any kind of progress to solve gun violence.

We will eliminate the filibuster. We will take on the Republican senators who continue to accept what is essentially blood money from the NRA, and we will pass common sense gun safety legislation. But first, we need to defeat David Perdue.

I believe responsible gun owners must be part of the solution to our gun violence epidemic. Let me be clear. David Perdue and Mitch McConnell’s failure to allow a vote on any reasonable gun reform legislation is an outrage. Putting the interests of gun manufacturers before the lives of their constituents violates the public trust that we are supposed to place in our leaders, but is so lacking today.
