In just a moment, I am going to ask you to make a donation to 350 so that we can continue organizing a global grassroots movement to take on the fossil fuel industry.

But first let me explain why this request — especially today — is so important.

The impacts of the climate crisis are getting worse. Across the world, heatwaves and droughts are causing wildfires and heat deaths. People are losing their homes in hurricanes and floods. All the while, fossil fuel executives keep making billions as our world burns.

But even in these dark days, there is so much hope — you just have to look around. Despite the pandemic, despite the fires and storms, we’re seeing our resistance grow in power.

This Friday, youth activists across the world will hold another global climate strike, led by the voices of children from countries most affected by climate impacts. And a few weeks later, 350 colleagues and supporters from Asia to Africa to Europe will take bold action at the very heart of fossil finance.

There’s so much we want to do, and so much we can achieve together. There are many ways you can help the movement grow in power and hope — today, I’m asking you to donate, to support the global work we do for climate justice:

Can you chip in today so that we can build a global grassroots movement and dismantle the fossil fuel industry?

Exactly one year ago, after months of hard work and tireless organising and mobilising efforts, we were stunned and thrilled to see almost 8 million people go out on the streets during the Global Climate Strike to demand climate action.

But the COVID-19 pandemic changed our context in a way we couldn’t have imagined. So our work had to change, too. We moved so much of our movement support online, and we got creative thinking about tactics which would keep activists safe, while still putting pressure on those in power.

But most importantly, we realised that a door has been opened, and deep, systemic change was within our grasp. So we built and led a powerful global coalition together, demanding a just, green recovery — and a better future for all.

With a new strategy and new motivation, with new allies from every corner of the struggle for social and economic justice, we’re throwing ourselves into the fight. We’ll continue acting against banks and investors who fund the toxic fossil fuel industry, and we’ll continue raising our voice for a real green new deal for everyone, everywhere.

During this unprecedented and dangerous moment, we want to be hopeful, and remember what we can accomplish when we come together:

We can put people before profits.

We can make health and well-being a priority.

We can and must simultaneously address the racial, economic, social, and environmental crises around the globe.

We can build solidarity, and a safer, greener future.

This means a lot of work building and strengthening a global grassroots movement for climate justice. A movement you’re already a part of. A movement you can help thrive, by making sure we have the resources to continue to grow.

I know that right now, many of us are experiencing the harsh economic impacts of the pandemic. That's why it's so important we raise our voices for a global recovery that supports people, and essential services like health care, housing and public transport, rather than bailing out corporations and paying for CEO bonuses.

I also know it means you might not be in a position to donate right now. But if you can, please make the donation for yourself, or maybe make a small contribution for someone who wants to but can’t afford it today.

Anything you can do to help would mean a lot.

If you can afford it — and only if you can afford it — chip in today to support our global grassroots movement.
