Hi John,

I hope all is well with you.

Youth workers report that over half of young people are confused as to what consent means, and almost one in four lack confidence to communicate their preferences in relation to sexual activity.

Those were two of the stark findings from the study we presented last Friday when we launched Let's Talk about Consent.

To help tackle the issues identified in the study, the NYCI National Youth Health Programme launched Let's Talk about Consent, two guides for young people and those working with them, and I'm delighted to share these with you now.

The guides provide an introduction to the concept of consent and include information on:
  • Consent and the Irish Law
  • Tools to build the confidence and the communication skills of young people in relation to their sexual health
  • Guidance for youth workers to start a conversation with young people on the concept of consent and how your organisation can support young people and their sexual health
We hope you find both the research and the guidance documents useful, and please do share them with your colleagues and the young people you work with.

If you have any questions, please get in touch.

P.S. I know many of you missed out on attending our oversubscribed launch. To give you a flavour of some of the discussion on the day I've included some of the media coverage below.

My colleague Lisa’s excellent interview with Dr Ciara Kelly on Newstalk Breakfast is well worth a listen. As was the follow up on Newstalk's ‘Hard Shoulder’ that evening with Noeline Blackwell, CEO of the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre.
