Content Warning: this email discusses police brutality

In March, police officers burst into Breonna’s apartment in Louisville,
Kentucky on a no-knock warrant, looking for someone else, and shot her
eight times. Another Black woman killed by police.

Today, the edges of this most recent shard of injustice are especially
sharp.

The Grand Jury in Kentucky brought no charges against the police officers
for murdering Breonna Taylor — the only charges brought today were against
Brett Hankison for shooting a wall.

I am gutted. I am heartbroken. Breonna, you saved lives, and yet, yours
was brutally taken. I am not resigned to this outcome, I am resolved. We
won’t rest. This isn’t over.

We must fight back against this flagrant lack of justice or accountability
by supporting the organizers and protestors on the ground in Louisville,
Kentucky. Being a part of the progressive movement means showing up for
our brothers, sisters, and siblings, who are organizing against injustice.

Since our country’s inception, Black and Brown bodies have been profiled,
surveilled, policed, lynched, choked, brutalized and murdered at the hands
of police officers. The system isn’t broken — the violence and cruelty
were intended. It is past time to dismantle this system of criminal
injustice.

One of the most meaningful ways you can take action right now is by
supporting the protestors and organizers in Louisville who are demanding
that their voices be heard and calling for real accountability. [ [link removed] ]If you
can afford to, please support these freedom fighters today by chipping in
any amount.

In solidarity,

Ayanna Pressley
