Breonna Taylor was murdered by police 194 days ago while she slept in her bed.

Earlier today, a grand jury charged an officer  only for “wanton endangerment” for shots that were fired into a neighboring apartment.

I wish I could say I was shocked.

The justice system was built to put police over Black lives and enable violence against our community. Today’s ruling was not even about Breonna. Her murder was not acknowledged. Reducing her murder to “wanton endangerment” is white supremacy at work.

Police violence is gun violence, and we cannot end gun violence without ending systemic police violence.

We don’t need dancing in the street with the police, we need self-determination to decide who, what, and how we keep our communities safe. We can not reform a system that allows for murder. We don’t need more task forces, we need more investments in us, in our communities.

As an organization, we may not be on the ground in Louisville, but we are there in spirit and will keep fighting in Breonna’s name and in the name of all Black women and Black people whose lives have been stolen.

Her name is not just a hashtag. It was a life, and nothing can bring her back.

Say her name.

Say their names.

I am weary and sad today. But, in Breonna’s memory, and for justice- let's keep fighting every day.
