[1]Real Justice
John,
Earlier today, Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron announced that no
officers will be charged in the death of Breonna Taylor.
Calling this a slap in the face is an understatement. It’s a grave
injustice. This is the root of why we say Black Lives Matter. They have
treated Breonna Taylor's life like it doesn't matter one bit. I'm sick and
angry. Once again — we’re seeing another community failed by its leaders,
and police officers not being held accountable for their deadly actions.
But it doesn’t have to be this way,
John. More often than not, it is
the unwillingness of the local prosecutor that prevents justice from being
served. While this case was put in the hands of Kentucky Attorney General
Daniel Cameron, the unjust outcomes in cases like Breonna’s could be
completely different if our local District Attorneys shared the same
values of accountability.
The reform-focused District Attorneys that Real Justice has helped elect
around the country have shown this firsthand. They are bringing change and
justice to their communities. [ [link removed] ]We have the opportunity to elect five

We must continue fighting through legal channels for justice for Breonna’s
family and accountability for the officers involved.
But we must also do everything in our power to fight for deep, systemic
change that prevents more murders like Breonna Taylor’s.
Change is possible. I see it right now in the cities with Real Justice
candidates we helped elect.
In Philadelphia, Boston and San Francisco, DAs came together to launch
historic Truth, Justice, and Reconciliation commissions to provide a
dedicated system to review and address traumas and injustices.
In San Antonio, DA Joe Gonzales met with the families of Sergeant Damian
Daniels after he was murdered by police during a mental health check, when
so many DAs will do no such thing.
In St. Louis County, Kim Gardner reduced the average daily jail population
by 39% over 4 years. Real Justice helped make sure she got re-elected so
that progress can continue.
In November, we have the opportunity to elect five more leaders we’ve
endorsed this year. These leaders are counting on us to provide resources
and support so they can lead the fight for real justice in their
communities.
I won’t rest until we bring this kind of bold change to all of our
communities. Now, more than ever, it’s critical we all work together to
build legal systems that are rooted in equality and justice.

Real Justice team? We’re working for the next 41 days leading up to
Election Day to make sure we elect as many Real Justice candidates as we
can this year.

Shaun King
