Justice was not served, and we must exercise our right to vote and fight back with our ballots this election.

Maggie Toulouse Oliver, NM Secretary of State

Friends and Neighbors,

Justice was not served today in Louisville, Kentucky.

It was announced that only one of the three police officers who partook in the shooting and killing of Breonna Taylor will be charged. And the one officer charged was given a bail set at only $15,000.

The officers were at Breonna's home executing a "no-knock warrant" — which allows police to forcibly enter homes without warning.

I repeat: An unarmed Black woman was murdered inside her home by cops.

If you are angry, you are not alone. I am livid.

But I know that the only way to make meaningful and impactful change in fixing our broken criminal justice system is by electing leaders who will take real action, institute major reforms, and pass comprehensive policies that will end police brutality and systemic racism.

We must take our anger and sadness and turn it into civic action. And the most powerful way that we can do that is by fighting back with our ballots and refusing to be silent on November 3.

We must do better.

Maggie
