USPS disruptions are exposing the cruel practice of shipping live animals, such as chicks and ducklings.
Farm Sanctuary
Shocking as it may seem, it is common for living animals to be shipped through the mail via the United States Postal Service (USPS). This issue recently came to light in disturbing reports about thousands of baby chicks dying in the mail.¹ But this isn't news.
Farm Sanctuary has opposed this inhumane and irresponsible practice for years, and we've also rescued animals after they've been abandoned at the post office. Our position is that these animals should never be shipped in the mail in the first place.
It is unconscionable that millions of animals, including newborn chicks and ducklings, are being sent through the mail every year, treated like inanimate objects. Barely 1-day old, these helpless babies are packed in dark boxes without food or water and sent on harrowing journeys that take up to 72 hours. Shipping animals can also contribute to the spread of zoonotic diseases.
If you believe it is wrong for living animals to be mailed like objects, please write to Postmaster General Louis DeJoy and urge the U.S. Postal Service to ban shipments of live animals.

Like all animals, chickens, ducks and other farm animals deserve to be treated with respect.
