When leaders decide to shape their policy around ideology and partisan politics, they not only put the environment in danger but also the people living where their decisions take effect. The U.S. Senate has made this abundantly clear over the last four years.

You’ve seen what happens when officials are indifferent to the consequences of their actions. Because of a failure to respond quickly in Flint, Michigan, up to 12,000 children were exposed to lead from Flint’s drinking water. And even now, half a decade after this crisis began, there are still 2,500 lead pipes that need to be replaced.

Michigan needs leaders who are willing to make science-based decisions and who will not cut corners to save money on these decisions. Leaders like this are the only way toward environmental justice and outcomes that will protect citizens from the devastating effects of pollution and callous officials.
