Folks, today I signed an executive order to phase out gasoline-powered cars -- by 2035, all new cars sold in the state of California will be emission-free.

Transportation currently accounts for more than 50 percent of California’s greenhouse gas emissions, 80 percent of smog-forming pollution and 95 percent of toxic diesel emissions. Our communities are choking on some of the dirtiest and most toxic air in the country.

Phasing out gas-powered cars by 2035 will allow us to achieve more than a 35 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions -- which will have a huge impact on our environment, and on the health and safety of our people.

While the Trump administration rolls back our environmental protections and tries to bring us back to the 19th century, California is stepping up and stepping in.

California will be leading the nation – we’re joining 15 countries that have already committed to phase out gasoline-powered cars.

These are the kind of bold policies we need to fight climate change -- anything less won’t save us from the disastrous effects we’re already experiencing.

Folks, pitch in any amount so we can continue leading the nation on bold policies to tackle climate change:
