The stakes for true religious freedom are now higher than ever, with a Supreme Court that could include yet another Trump appointee.
The wrong choice could fatally damage church-state separation, jeopardize freedom of religion for the vast majority of Americans, and threaten equality and the rule of law.
It’s no secret that President Trump has a record of appealing to and appeasing a minority of religious extremists. That’s a clear signal that his nominee could join in the attempt by this administration and its allies to redefine religious freedom as a sword to harm others rather than as a shield to protect us.
At this critical moment, you can help our team protect Justice Ginsburg’s legacy of defending church-state separation on our nation’s highest court. Click here to support our work with an emergency gift today: [link removed]
As AU’s Legal Director, I’m deeply concerned that Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s legacy of protecting religious freedom could be undone by a Trump-nominated justice with opposing views. Justice Ginsburg’s heroic defense of every American’s right to practice any faith, or no faith at all, without harming others, resulted in crucial votes to uphold the rights of religious minorities, the nonreligious, women, LGBTQ people, and many others.
As you know well, these rights are continually under threat from Christian nationalists who prefer to impose their narrow, extremist views on the majority of the country.
Americans United is committed to protecting religious freedom and church-state separation in this next chapter of the Supreme Court. But we are only as strong as our supporters. Please make a donation to be a part of our critical work today: [link removed]

Richard B. Katskee
