Like you, I am heartbroken by the death of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. She was a phenomenal and fierce advocate for women’s rights and equality before the law.

Before she’s even laid to rest, Trump and Senate Republicans are scheming to try to undermine her legacy by shifting the court further right. They’re getting ready to overturn the Affordable Care Act, reproductive rights, voter rights and bedrock protections for our food, water and climate.

But we’re fighting back. The people must have a say on who fills Justice Ginsburg’s seat.

In 2016 Mitch McConnell refused to allow the Senate to vote on a Supreme Court nominee during the last year of the Obama administration. He said it was too close to an election to act on a vacancy. That was NINE months before an election.

Now he says he intends to rush Trump’s nomination to the Senate floor for a vote just 41 days before the election. McConnell believes that keeping Trump and right-wing ideologues in power matters more than preserving the norms of our democracy. It’s way beyond mere hypocrisy.

But if enough people speak out, we can stop this.

We’ve endured a lot of things in 2020 — a pandemic, economic collapse and the devastating effects of climate change are just a few. But as the 2020 election gets closer, and Trump and his enablers continue to threaten our democracy, the people must have a say in who sits on the U.S. Supreme Court.

Before her death, Justice Ginsburg wrote, "My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed."

Let us honor her request. And let’s hold Republicans to the standard they set in 2016. Send your message: Let the voters decide who fills the seat of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
