Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg's passing is a tremendous loss. A relentless defender of our democracy with unwavering judicial integrity, Ginsburg's absence now means that the future of the Supreme Court hangs in the balance — and this election is more important than ever.

Senate Republicans have vowed to vote on a new Supreme Court justice before the end of Trump's term — even though the election is already underway, with many voters casting their ballots by mail or waiting in line at polling places in early voting states. And all voters deserve to have their voices heard.

The NRDC Action Fund is going all out to delay a Senate vote on a new Supreme Court nominee until the next presidency — and we're doubling down on our efforts to ensure that president is Joe Biden.

The stakes for our country could not be higher — the fate of the Supreme Court directly relates to the fate of our civil rights and democracy, our health and environmental laws, action on the climate crisis, and our clean energy future. Justice Ginsburg was a true environmental champion, a voice that will now be sorely missing from the highest bench in the land.

And ever since he stepped foot in the Oval Office, Donald Trump and his administration have systematically wreaked havoc on our environment, threatened our communities, and put the health of everyone at risk.

As our nation reels from devastating wildfires and storms, racial injustice, the COVID-19 pandemic, and now the loss of Justice Ginsburg, it's clearer than ever that our very future depends on electing Joe Biden and climate champions like him up and down the ballot.

As we work to protect the Supreme Court, we also need a strong turnout to elect Biden, especially in those key swing states that could decide who wins — and we urgently need your help to make that happen.

Biden's $2 trillion climate plan will be the most ambitious proposed by any administration. It will put people back to work and ensure clean air and water for all. And it is how we will fight climate change, rebuild our pandemic-ravaged economy, and address the environmental injustices that systematically harm Black, Indigenous, and communities of color.

Right now, Donald Trump and his allies are banking on the COVID-19 crisis, disinformation, and fear to drive down voter turnout to his advantage. But the NRDC Action Fund is adapting our tactics to meet the new realities of the pandemic:

• We've launched digital get-out-the-vote ads and a massive text-out-the-vote campaign in key battleground states to ensure voters have the information they need to cast their ballots safely and securely — starting with how to vote by mail. We've already texted over a million voters, and we're just getting started.
• We're providing innovative digital tools promoting voter registration, early voting, and voting by mail to pro-environment voters everywhere.
• We're recruiting activists to serve as poll workers to fill the void of typically older poll workers who are more vulnerable to COVID-19 and may be unable to volunteer this year.
• We're partnering with four other national environmental organizations to hire local organizers in key states and districts to help get out the vote on the ground in those areas that could determine the outcome of the election — safely, of course.

At the same time, we're doing everything we can to keep climate at the forefront of the conversation on the campaign trail as we continue to beat back Trump's assaults on our environment ... support pro-environment legislation in Congress ... and make real progress on climate and clean energy in state houses and city halls across the country.
