It is no secret that the history of segregation, discrimination, and unequal access in housing continues to plague communities across our nation.
As we grapple with the legacy of racism, we at the Alliance for Housing Solutions are exploring what we can do to dismantle systems that have benefited some while leaving others behind because of the color of their skin. We acknowledge that this work is complex and painful. But we believe the only way forward is to face the truth and work toward new systems that will create an equitable future for everyone.
We are also at a pivotal moment in our County's planning. Arlington is preparing to launch a study of Missing Middle Housing and an update to the Affordable Housing Master Plan. Now is the time for learning—and for action.
I invite you to join us as we explore the topic of race and housing through two virtual community conversations. These conversations are open to anyone who wants to learn more about our history and explore ideas for how we can make improvements in our housing policy. You'll hear from local experts and have a chance to share your own ideas and experiences.
Please note that we will be rescheduling the second event (originally planned for October 29) in light of Arlington County's announcement of a Missing Middle Housing Study Kick-off that evening. (Kick-off details forthcoming.)
