Hi John,
This week, we reached an important milestone in our decades of work to pass the Safe Schools Improvement Act: We now have a record high of 228 Members of the U.S. House of Representatives currently co-sponsoring the bill. This is an important show of support for the protection of all K-12 students across the country regardless of actual or perceived race, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, and religion. And with clear bipartisan support, it’s time to pass this bill.
Thanks to the leadership of Rep. Sanchez (CA-38) and Sen. Casey (PA) and a broad coalition [[link removed]] of support, we’re closer than ever. That’s why today we’re asking you to join us in support of this crucial legislation. [[link removed] us-house-representatives-co-sponsoring-hr-2653-safe-schools-improvement-act] Whether your representatives in the House and Senate have already signed onto the bill or still need to do so, we need to let them know this is a priority for us.
The Safe Schools Improvement Act would amend the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 to protect every student from bullying and harassment in K-12 schools. The bill provides flexibility to state and local education agencies to make schools safer, by adopting common sense policies at the local level that address the unique needs of all communities. GLSEN has long been a leader in fighting for these protections, to protect all students and make K-12 learning environments safer for all.
Send a message today: support the Safe Schools Improvement Act [[link removed] us-house-representatives-co-sponsoring-hr-2653-safe-schools-improvement-act] .
