Our opposition argues that creating a new, independent body to oversee the Sheriff's Department is duplicative when the Department of Police Accountability has already been hired to do that -- this is false!

The Department of Police Accountability (DPA) has had four years to uphold the recommendations made by the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. And they’ve barely completed a third of those recommendations. How can we trust them to oversee the Sheriff’s Department knowing they can’t even keep SFPD accountable for their actions?

Proposition D will create much needed oversight and transparency in the San Francisco Sheriff's Department through an independent oversight board that can receive, review and investigate any instances of misconduct and abuse to bring justice back to San Francisco.
