We need more room on the bus!

There is no Muni to Work Day. Why? Because we can't fit any more people on Muni buses and trains at rush hour. It would take an army of volunteers to help people to figure out schedules, routes, travel times, and fares all at once. And as we learned during last year's ride-along to City Hall, we just can't count on Muni to get us where we need to go on time.

That's why San Francisco Transit Riders launched Transit Week four years ago: to celebrate a system that serves over 750,000 trips every day; to say thank you to the operators who get us where we're going safely; and to celebrate the riders who put up with Muni's quirks and challenges every day.

It's also our time to push for the Muni system we know we need. It's not okay that it can take an hour or more on Muni to get across a city that's only 7 miles wide. It's not okay that Rapid service is bogged down in traffic and doesn't arrive at least every 10 minutes. It's not okay that so many communities have such infrequent and slow service that people are forced to use private cars, even as San Francisco has declared a climate emergency.

We know Rapid service works. It provides relief to riders crowded on slow-moving buses, increases ridership, and gets people out of cars. We're calling for a Rapid network that truly connects every neighborhood with frequent service that runs end-to-end in 30 minutes by 2030.

Join us Monday morning at City Hall - and invite your friends! - to call for the Muni service we need and deserve for a livable, sustainable, equitable San Francisco.

See you there!
