John,
The last four years of Donald Trump have taken a real toll on our democracy, the rule of law, and our country as we know it. It must end.
That’s why today, I’m introducing a major bill to ensure that no future president can do the kind of damage this one has done, ever again.
My new legislation — The Protecting Our Democracy Act — is an ambitious set of comprehensive reforms designed to prevent abuses of presidential power, restore our system of checks and balances, create greater accountability and transparency, and protect our elections.
If you believe it’s critical that we prevent future presidents from doing the same kind of damage that Trump has done, add your name as a citizen co-sponsor in support of this legislation now:
For too long, Trump has gotten away with major abuses of power and attacks on our democratic institutions like never before. Time and again, he’s placed his personal and political interests above the national interests and the well being of the American people.
Trump has used his position in the Oval Office to: enrich himself and his family, protect himself and his enablers, attack the free press and his political opponents, encourage foreign interference in our elections, and end all accountability as we know it.
After the Watergate scandal — a similarly dark time in American history — Congress took action to pass a series of landmark laws and reforms to change politics and prevent a future president from abusing their office the way Richard Nixon did. Those changes have stood the test of time, but nobody could have foreseen what Trump would do to our country and rule of law.
We desperately need to pass a new set of reforms to stop Trump, or any other president, from abusing the power of the presidency any further. If you’re with me, add your name to put pressure on Congress to pass The Protecting Our Democracy Act ASAP.
No matter what happens this November, we need to do everything in our power to prevent another Trump from ever eroding our democracy again in the future. Thanks so much for your help and for standing by my side.
