Since our first festival in 1985, we’ve granted nearly $24 million to over 300 family farm organizations nationwide. To us, these organizations are not just grantees, but also critical partners—changing the farm and food system. Their range of impact is meaningful and their body of work is as diverse as the geography of this country. We're lucky Farm Aid 2019 gets to visit a state with three very strong organizations represented in our quilt: The Midwest Organic and Sustainable Education Service (MOSES), Family Farm Defenders, and Michael Fields Agricultural Institute.

Longtime Farm Aid volunteer, Nicole Opie is also a farmer in this year's festival region! Learn more about her farm, her goat milk soap business, and why she's stuck with farming despite its many challenges:

It can be rough for days on end, and a lot of people give up and I completely empathize with that...regardless of the problems and the challenges of raising your own animals, growing your own food, producing your own milk and cheese, the pros still outweigh the cons. And it’s so important that more and more people take part in that food production process for themselves and their families.”
