** Dear Sister District DC/MD/VA Volunteers,
------------------------------------------------------------
We know that last Friday's news about the passing of Ruth Bader Ginsburg was difficult to take--we're all feeling grief over this incredible woman and her legacy. As our founder Rita Bosworth said ([link removed][UNIQID]) : "I cannot sugarcoat this–it is an incredible loss at an incredibly precarious moment in our history. And the weeks ahead are going to be even tougher than expected. But know this: the future is not written yet.

Mourn her death, but continue moving forward. Do not let this extinguish your hope; rather, let hope burn brightly as a reminder that your actions matter, and we have the ability to continue making progress, even against all odds. She certainly did."

Our political director Gaby Goldstein, also had some powerful words to share in The Guardian ([link removed][UNIQID]) this week about RBG's passing, and the immense importance of state legislatures: "In this new reality, to protect our democracy, Democrats must win state legislative elections in November. To prevent a sharp rightward tack in American law, we must elect more Democratic state lawmakers, flip chambers, and break Republican supermajorities, so that extreme and dangerous laws are not passed in the first place."

Wondering what you can do right now? As RBG once said, "Women belong in all places where decisions are being made" so if you're able, please join us this Wednesday (6:30-8) and Saturday (11-12:30) to phone bank ([link removed][UNIQID]) for Deb Ciamacca, our fantastic candidate in Pennsylvania. Since we can't canvass this year, every call counts--and we need your help! Deb supports a great public education, and is an ardent proponent of access to healthcare, and of course, women's rights.
