Friend,
This week, I’m thinking about the great Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
Her fight for gender equality took her from the ACLU to the steps of the Supreme Court, over which “Equal Justice Under Law,” the mission she had always embodied, is inscripted -- and her role as Justice became the natural extension of this lifelong fight.
She was a steadfast champion of a person’s right to choose. As she was confirmed to the Supreme Court, she famously said:
“It is essential to woman’s equality with man that she be the decision-maker, that her choice be controlling. If you impose restraints that impede her choice, you are disadvantaging her because of her sex.”
Though she has passed away, the fight continues. That fight must never stop, and now, more than ever, that fight is critical to maintaining the fabric of our democracy.
Friend, I’m in this fight to protect Roe v. Wade and protect access to safe, legal abortion. But Roe v. Wade is in more danger than ever -- and we need to send leaders to Congress who will champion it, not tear it down.
Friend, I am that leader.
Rich McCormick is not.

Friend, the state of Georgia has the highest maternal mortality rate in the country, and under the regime of Brian Kemp, Georgia politicians have repeatedly tried to criminalize abortion -- even for people whose pregnancies put their lives in danger. Rich McCormick agrees with that dangerous view, proudly supporting abortion bans so extreme that doctors who perform abortions could be sent to prison.
His views put vulnerable communities in danger, roll back our ongoing fight for gender equality, and confirm that he is not the leader for this moment.
Our bodies should never be politicized, and our right to choose as well as our right to doctor-patient confidentiality should never be interfered with -- especially not by the very people who stand to benefit most from gender inequality.
I'm in this fight to protect all of us, friend. For the women and girls who deserve a leader who will always stand for them, and for the people who need access to reproductive health care the most:
I will fight for you.
That’s why I’m asking that you stand with our movement. We must prevent Rich McCormick from ever seeing the inside of the halls of Congress.
Thank you,
Carolyn Bourdeaux
