Here in Alaska, it’s pretty tough to be a climate change denier. We’re on the frontlines of the climate crisis, and our temperatures are rising faster than any state in the country.

Eroding coastlines are even causing entire villages like Newtok to relocate because their homes are sinking and crumbling into the water. And, our $12.8 billion fishing industry (the largest in the United States) is at risk due to rising temperatures and ocean acidification.

It’s clear that we need federal assistance to combat the effects of climate change in Alaska. But right now, Don Young is focused on denying the science behind it. Here’s what he said in an interview this month: 

Don Young doesn’t understand the problem, so he’s incapable of fighting for solutions. 

I’ll be blunt: I accept science. 

97% of climate scientists agree that human activities are likely responsible for our changing climate, and I trust their conclusions. I’m ready to go to Washington and listen to experts to learn more about what we can do to combat climate change—and I’m ready to fight to make sure Alaskans who are impacted get the resources they need to thrive. 

I am excited to champion the excellent climate research work we have going in Alaska, along with the many energy projects. Alaskan ingenuity is showing the way for how we can be leaders in new technology for our nation and the world.
