Overcoming obstruction to help thousands become eligible to vote.

John,
The voice of the people should be heard in every election. That's why we need
to do everything we can to make it easier for people to vote -- not harder.
The people of Florida know this. In 2018, voters there overwhelmingly
supported a statewide constitutional amendment to restore voting rights to
formerly incarcerated individuals. But despite the clear will of the people,
state leaders enacted a law that would effectively prevent thousands from
exercising their restored rights by forcing them to pay outstanding fines and
fees before they can register to vote.
This morning, the Florida Rights Restoration Coalition
<[link removed]> announced that, with the help of tens of thousands of
grassroots donors and others, including Mike Bloomberg, they've raised more
than $20 million to push back against this obstruction, and give more
Floridians a chance to vote in the upcoming elections.

rights in Florida?

The money raised will directly pay the fines and fees of tens of thousands of
returning citizens so they will be eligible to register to vote. That will help
support increased voter turnout for the 2020 election -- which will be among
the most consequential elections in our history. It's critical that every
eligible voice is heard.
As Mike said of the announcement, "The right to vote is fundamental to our
democracy and no American should be denied that right. Working together with
the Florida Rights Restoration Coalition, we are determined to end
disenfranchisement and the discrimination that has always driven it."
