Just last night, Cory Gardner announced that he would vote for Donald Trump’s SCOTUS nominee before the election — contradicting himself in 2016, and making that promise before even knowing who Trump would nominate.
Gardner’s decision to fill RBG’s seat with whichever right-wing extremist Trump chooses to dismantle her legacy is a gut-punch. But it’s also against the will of the people. A strong majority – including almost 50% of Republican voters — think this seat shouldn’t be filled before the election.
Despite being a Senator from a purple state, Gardner has been a hardcore Trump loyalist. From health care to judicial nominations, he’s been a key component of the Republican majority that allowed McConnell to block countless progressive and Democratic bills.
But that can end in November. Hickenlooper has a strong lead against Gardner, and if he has the resources to capitalize on that momentum, he can end Gardner’s career once and for all.
