Eligible individuals have until October 15 to file for their Economic Impact Payment (“stimulus payments”)
** Don’t Let Immigrant Families
Leave Money on the Table
------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Allies,
In today’s e-blast, we have several resources to help you encourage eligible people to claim stimulus payments before the October 15 deadline. We’re also sharing the PIF campaign’s new Train-the-Trainer toolkit and best practices guide for creating or expanding your own training program.
** PIF Train-the-Trainer Toolkit
------------------------------------------------------------
This new toolkit includes materials you can use to develop your own Public Charge Train-the-Trainer (TTT) program. We encourage you to use the materials in the toolkit as a base for your program. The materials include a template version of a curriculum that you can adapt to your audience and brand with your organization’s logo. Please complete this form ([link removed]) to request the TTT toolkit. We will follow-up with materials and answer any questions you may have.
** Resources to Help Eligible People Claim Stimulus Payments
------------------------------------------------------------
Eligible individuals have until October 15 to file for their Economic Impact Payment (“stimulus payments”). Although the CARES Act excluded millions of immigrants ([link removed]) and their U.S. citizen family members from stimulus payments, there are still many immigrant families who are eligible for the payments but have not claimed them. Below is a list of resources to help you spread the word and make sure that families don’t miss the upcoming deadline on October 15.
* Use the Get It Back Campaign’s suite of outreach resources ([link removed]) to create a strategy and conduct outreach efforts that you can achieve in these final weeks, including customizable social media graphics and posts, ([link removed]) an email template ([link removed]) , and information flyer ([link removed]) , which is available in multiple languages.
* Our partners at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP) have a toolkit in English and Spanish ([link removed]) with resources to support state outreach to non-filers eligible for stimulus payments.
* Virtual sources of support are available for anyone who has more questions or needs other support through the process. Code for America’s Get Your Refund service ([link removed]) takes clients through the IRS form online and United Way’s 211 EIP Helpline ([link removed]) (1-844-322-3639) provides live assistance to help people complete the form and answer questions about eligibility.
If you have questions about public charge implications, please see the PIF campaign’s quick reference guide ([link removed]) on immigrant eligibility for public programs during COVID-19 (also available in Spanish ([link removed]) ).
** Join UC Davis’ Virtual Symposium:
Trauma-Informed Care and Services for Immigrant Families
------------------------------------------------------------
The Center for Reducing Health Disparities at UC Davis and the California Health Care Foundation are hosting a three-part virtual symposium on Trauma-Informed Care and Services for Immigrant Families. The last session is scheduled for later today, Tuesday, September 22 ( 12-2:30 PT / 1-3:30 MT / 2-4:30 CT / 3-5:30 ET). Experts from UC Davis, the National Immigration Law Center, and the California Immigrant Policy Center will discuss financial impacts and policy solutions for trauma in immigrant families. Free registration is available here ([link removed]) .
** Public Charge in the News
------------------------------------------------------------
* WHYY Radio ([link removed]) – Public charge is one reason Latinx Philadelphians aren’t getting COVID-19 testing and care.
* NBC News ([link removed]) – Nearly ¾ of Latinx households face health and/or economic consequences of the pandemic.
In Solidarity,
Eddie Carmona & Renato Rocha, on behalf of the PIF Team
