Today is National Voter Registration Day, and this year, it’s one of the most important dates on my calendar, right next to November 3rd. Birthdays and anniversaries will have to wait until next year.

The news of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s death has further raised the stakes of an election that was already an all-out battle for the soul of our country. The Supreme Court is set to hear oral arguments in the case that will decide the fate of the Affordable Care Act on November 10th -- and the outcome will determine whether or not tens of millions more Americans lose their health coverage in the middle of a global pandemic. And that’s just one case.

If we’re going to stop the carnage of this administration, its appointees, and its enablers, we can’t leave a single vote on the table. That includes your vote, and the votes of literally everyone you know.

This election isn’t just about voting for a new administration or a new Supreme Court Justice. It’s about casting your vote for a better future.

I’m voting with my daughter in mind. I want to give her a future where she’s not forced to inherit a planet on the brink of climate collapse; where she has access to more affordable healthcare, not less; where she has the right to control her own body; where she doesn’t have to worry about her best friend getting stopped by the police; and where she’s able to create an even brighter future for her own children.  

There’s too much on the line to sit this election out. Now more than ever, we need every single eligible voter registered and casting their ballots so we can get Biden and Harris into the White House, and take back the Senate so that they have a chance to enact their agenda. 

So join me in observing National Voter Registration Day by making your plan to vote right now. And then spread the word to three of your friends or family members who might also need a nudge in building their Election Day plans. It might be just the push they need.
