 John, Republican elites’ rapid response to the supreme court vacancy hasn't changed a thing--just raised the stakes. When I got a text from my aunt about Ginsberg’s passing, I felt hopeless. I felt a numbness creeping over me, and a voice of defeat telling me this was a set back on top of so many violations of justice in our society right now that we just wouldn’t be able to overcome them all in time. But then I remembered what we’re truly capable of--swinging elections, showing up for our people in times of crisis, throwing down for historic uprisings. In Sunrise, all I see around me is fighters. I know we aren’t going anywhere, and our strength is growing. We will continue to grow the movement by doubling down on our efforts to contact young voters of color in swing states like Michigan, North Carolina, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania to invite them to vote and mobilize with us. Today, we are announcing a new commitment to reach over a million young voters in swing states through our postcards program. This is a key opportunity to grow the movement and unseat Trump.
Wanna know what growing power looks like? When we launched our postcards program just over a week ago our goal was to write 100,000 postcards. I was nervous we wouldn't get there. But in 48 hours, more than 450,000 postcards had been ordered. I could scarcely believe I was reading the numbers correctly as I watched them rise hour after hour. Thanks to everyone stepping up and to generous donations from the Sunrise community, we are now able to increase the program to 1 million postcards. That means we have the funding to send postcards to one million young voters who did not vote in 2016 in states where Trump won by the slimmest margins. We won by the margin of a broken coalition, of uninspired young people. Not only do we have the power, we have the responsibility to turn the tide. But I need you to write and send those postcards out. In times of crisis and heartbreak, I have seen our movement come together in ways that make us so much stronger than we ever were before.
