Dear Friends,

Please join us tomorrow, Wednesday, September 23rd at 2 pm ET for our signature new offering “With Democrats Things Get Better.”  You can reserve a spot for yourself and others here

This new, live presentation takes people through data about America over the past 32 years, the political era which arose after the end of the Cold War and when a true age of globalization began.

During these 32 years, including this one, Democrats and Republicans have each occupied the White House for 16 years.  So we have apples to apples comparisons on the performance of the two parties in this era, an era marked by very rapid geopolitical and economic changes, the rise of the global Internet and a very different information landscape, and profound demographic changes here at home.

A review of the data makes clear that one party – the Democrats – have built a politics around these changes, and shown that the nation can adapt and prosper despite daunting new challenges.  Over their 16 years in office, Democratic Presidents have seen significant job growth, rising wages, lower deficits and booming US stock markets.

The Republicans on the other hand, as successful as Ronald Reagan was in the Cold War, pre-globalization era, have failed to produce a politics which has been able to guide America through these big changes.  The three GOP Presidents in this era have all seen recessions on their watch; the last two, Trump and W. Bush, have seen two of the most significant economic downturns in our history.  All three saw the deficit explode, incomes drop and stock market gains were far behind what we saw under Clinton and Obama.  Simply, when Democrats were in power, things got better.  When Republicans came to power during this era, things got worse every time.

The failure of the post-Reagan Republican Party is one of the biggest and most important stories in American politics today.  It is a subject we take head on in this presentation, and one we plan on returning too again and again until we have a healthy center-right party in America.

You can learn more about the arguments behind this big presentation here.  We were pleased to see Mike Tomasky rave about “With Dems” in a new Daily Beast piece, and think this story is critical to understanding why voters under 45 are breaking so hard towards the Democrats.

Join us tomorrow and every Wednesday at 2 pm ET for what NDN is calling its “Wednesdays at NDN” – our deep dives on the 2020 elections.

Hope to see you tomorrow and feel free to invite friends and colleagues.  The more the merrier!

Best,

Simon, Georgia, and the rest of the NDN team
