Women have made a powerful impact in every facet of American society, but today on American Business Women’s Day, I wanted to acknowledge what a great contribution women have made to our workforce.

Despite so many obstacles, women have continued to lead in the business world, working to close the gender pay gap, fighting for more maternity leave, and pushing for more women in leadership roles. But really, it shouldn’t be this hard.

Every day in Congress, I work to achieve equality for women in the workplace, introducing bills like the Diversity in Corporate Leadership Act, the Women and Minorities in STEM Booster Act and the PUMP for Nursing Mothers Act.

But women still don’t have full, equal protection under the Constitution — and we need to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment to make that happen.

Last year, Virginia became the final state to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment. Now, all we need to do is make Congress remove the ratification deadline so this vital amendment becomes part of our Constitution.
