Last Rosh Hashanah, no one could have anticipated what 5780 would bring.
Since the Jewish community last gathered together to celebrate the High Holidays, the world has been turned on its head as COVID-19 spread around the globe.
Yet despite physical (and social) distance, Americans and Israelis still came together this year in common cause. The two countries partnered in the fight against COVID-19 as well as expanded U.S.-Israel cooperation in the fields of energy, homeland security, water, space and health.
As we look ahead to 5781, we will note many important anniversaries, including:
The 45th anniversary of the rescue of Jewish and Israeli hostages from Entebbe, Uganda.
The 30th anniversary of the Iraqi Scud missile attacks on Israel during Operation Desert Storm.
The 25th anniversary of the assassination of Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin.
The 20th anniversary of both the September 11th terrorist attacks and the beginning of the Second Intifada.
Throughout these and other events in America and Israel’s histories, one anchor of stability has been the vital U.S.-Israel relationship that helps keep both nations stronger and safer.
With a relationship built on shared values and interests, America and Israel prevail as democratic partners dedicated to the rule of law, human rights, and freedoms of speech and religion.
But ensuring that relationship stays strong requires work. It cannot be taken for granted.
The United States continues to stand with Israel because people like you work with AIPAC to help maintain a strong relationship between these two democratic nations.
And with threats mounting across the Middle East, we must continue advocate for this critical relationship and work closely with our lawmakers in Congress to protect Israel’s security.
That is why I hope you will act today to further your support and help us strengthen and expand this important relationship.
