John,

Hi! I’m Kenny Myers, the Director of Network Capacity here at the Alliance. One of the most exciting parts of my job is getting to manage Campus Takeover - a nation-wide effort on National Voter Registration Day (NVRD) to mobilize students for the upcoming 2020 election and beyond by registering them to vote, creating celebratory environments around voting, and fostering a culture of civic engagement on campuses.

This civic holiday has a special place in our organizing hearts because the Alliance co-founded NVRD in 2012! What started as an idea from young organizers grew into a major holiday garnering support and participation from influencers, elected officials, and nonprofits alike.

This year, NVRD is more important than ever. The coronavirus has drastically changed the way many organizations, including organizations in the Alliance network, conduct voter registration work. Today’s mass mobilization to register voters will be key to getting our country safely registered and #VoteReady.

And for the third year in a row, we are supporting over 400 college campuses to register students to vote as part of our NVRD CampusTakeover. This year we granted $50,000 in mini grants to campus organizations, so students can throw the best events possible on their campuses! To see all this work in action, follow us on social media (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram) as well as #NationalVoterRegistrationDay and #CampusTakeover. We will be uplifting in real-time Alliance organizations and Campus Takeover partners as they register thousands, and, yes, we mean thousands of voters today.

We also have some exciting events this week that we hope you’ll join us in celebrating civic engagement with young people across the country!
