Sunday night, my wife Martha and I had the privilege of joining our fellow Delawareans at a vigil to honor the incredible life and legacy of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. She was truly a trailblazer who dedicated her life to fighting for a more equal society for all Americans.

It was the discrimination that she faced personally as a Jewish woman and mother that propelled her to fight for the rights of every woman. But it also inspired her to fight for fair treatment for Americans of all means, colors, creeds and sexual orientations. And, unfortunately, with her passing, the equality that she spent her life fighting for is now on the line.

Equal access to life-saving health care under the Affordable Care Act.

Equal treatment of men and women.

Equal access to the ballot box.

Equal rights for working people in this country.

Equal access to clean air and clean water, regardless of your zip code.

The 2020 election was already the most important election of our lifetime. Now, it's even more important because all of these critical priorities - that we too often take for granted - hang in the balance.

Until her very last moments, Ruth Bader Ginsburg spent her life fighting for fairness. Now, the rest of us have a responsibility to continue that fight.

Mitch McConnell has made clear that he intends to rush through President Trump's nominee to fill Justice Ginsburg's seat. Not only is this the absolute height of hypocrisy after he refused to even give Merrick Garland a hearing for nearly a year, but it is absolutely unacceptable when voting is already underway across our country. Americans are already making their voices heard. Let them speak, and let whoever they choose as their next President in 43 days fill this consequential seat.

For the millions of Americans who have far too much at stake, we all need to be in this fight together. And we can't let up. Can you forward this message to five friends right now so we spread the word about just how much is on the line in this election now?

For the next 43 days, we all need to fight with the same grit and determination that Ruth Bader Ginsburg showed us.

Tom
