Hi there,

This Thursday, Chasten and I are hosting a special conversation, instead of the previously planned happy hour, and I wanted to make sure you received an invitation to join us.

With the passing of Justice Ginsburg, we are all rightly focused on protecting her legacy and we wanted to connect with this team and a special guest about something we all know well -- how the decisions made at the Supreme Court shape the lives of every single American.

Simply put: this isn't just about our country, it's about our lives.

We’ll be joined by Robbie Kaplan, co-founder of the Time’s Up Legal Defense Fund, Board Chair of Time’s Up, attorney for E Jean Carroll in her defamation case against Donald Trump, and attorney for the late lesbian activist Edie Windsor. In United States v. Windsor, Robbie successfully argued before the Supreme Court that they should invalidate a key provision of the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act as unconstitutional, helping to pave the way for full marriage equality nationwide two years later.

Just in my own family -- from my mother-in-law being able to have health insurance with pre-existing conditions to the fact that I have a lawful marriage at all -- we know that decisions the Supreme Court hands down shape our lived experiences in the most real and personal ways.

I’m looking forward to our conversation with Robbie -- a strong voice in the fight for LGBTQ rights -- and I hope you’ll join us to discuss Justice Ginsburg’s incredible legacy, the state of our democracy, and what we can all do heading into such an important fight.

Thank you and I hope to see you on the call.

Pete
