John,

Right now, the West Coast is experiencing an unprecedented wildfire season, including right here in Southwest Washington.

These wildfires are destroying communities and some of our most beautiful wild places, forcing many to evacuate and even more to deal with dangerous, smokey air.

Science tells us these worsening wildfire seasons are one of the many impacts of climate change, and without action within the next few years, extreme weather and natural disasters like this will only worsen over time. Our federal, state, and working forests are vital to capturing and sequestering carbon from the atmosphere, so losing them is an especially devastating blow.

The evidence is all around us: we need a leader in Congress willing to take bold, necessary action to address climate change.

I’m committed to fighting climate change and protecting our environment for generations to come by supporting legislation to transition us to renewable energy sources, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution, and preserve our air, water, and landscape for all. It’s time we demand that action from our leaders in Congress, now.

Will you join me in calling on Congress to urgently pass legislation to address climate change, prevent more devastating fires, and protect our environment?

It breaks my heart to watch places across Southwest Washington burn, but I know that with the right leadership and commitment to change, we can turn the tide and stop the devastating impacts of climate change from worsening. With time running out, we simply must act now.

Thank you,

Carolyn
