Poynter Perks: A conversation with Poynter senior media writer Tom Jones

Thursday, Sept. 24, 4 p.m. Eastern

Join us for an exclusive conversation for Poynter supporters about creating The Poynter Report and critiquing the media in 2020

Just when 2020 couldn’t get any more complicated, contentious and controversial, we learned Friday night that, sadly, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg had died. Now we know that the fight for Ginsburg’s open seat could impact the election more than any other issue.

More than the coronavirus, which continues to rage on. More than the economy, which continues to struggle. More than protests and discussions of race, which continue to happen all over the nation.

And certainly more than all the other issues we once thought would influence this election, such as immigration, climate change and foreign election interference.

It's these election-related issues important to Americans that are equally vital to the media to cover fairly and ethically as defenders of our democracy.

Join Poynter senior media writer, Tom Jones, [link removed], to help you make sense of it all. In his daily Poynter Report newsletter, Tom uses his 30+ years of industry experience to take more than 20,000 readers behind-the-scenes of how and why journalism gets made, and whether it was any good. He holds reporters and news organizations accountable for their choices and helps citizens like you understand how those choices impact your everyday lives.

In this conversation hosted exclusively for Poynter donors, Poynter’s Josh Herrington will moderate a conversation with Tom about creating The Poynter Report and what it’s like to critique the media in 2020.
