POLITICO reports: “Dark money groups are soon projected to pass $1 billion in reported spending since the Citizens United Supreme Court decision. But their reach is likely much more extensive than that.”
We don’t want dark money groups buying this election. But it looks like Donald Trump is now embracing the same illegal tactics he used in 2016 to grow his 2020 campaign war chest -- the Campaign Legal Center, a nonpartisan watchdog group, has filed a complaint with the FEC alleging Trump’s campaign has laundered tens of millions of dollars through companies connected with Trump’s former campaign manager.
This is extremely troubling. Trump and the RNC “raised” almost twice as much as Biden and the DNC in July, and the Trump campaign has just launched a multi-million dollar digital ad buy designed to smear Joe Biden and misinform voters before the election. At this rate, Trump will bury Biden in illegal dark money long before voters hit the polls.
