Have you seen the news? Fairfax County's record-setting turnout on the first day of early voting has created much cause for celebration. But late Friday night, as we mourned the loss of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Republicans were hard at work organizing to stop the vote with a demonstration at the Fairfax County Government Center.
I know, I was there. I saw as Republican agitators circled voters in their cars, blaring their horns. I watched as the Office of Elections rushed to get voters inside. I documented the disruption and chaos caused by these Republicans, just as we've seen chaos emanate from the White House these last three and a half years.
Thankfully, Attorney General Mark Herring (D) and Fairfax County Commonwealth's Attorney Steve Descano (D) have committed to protecting voters and prosecuting cases of voter intimidation.
But that's just the start. We need your support to put out more no-contact sample ballot signs, support our poll observers, and chase every last absentee ballot to make sure every vote counts.
So I have two asks for you:
1. Know your options. Make a plan. Don't be deterred. Vote.
2. Make a contribution to our Dump Trump fund. We have 43 days to make a difference and we can leave nothing up to chance. [link removed]
As Republicans coordinate their next disruption, we need to organize our volunteers to be prepared for anything. And we need everyone to know what's at stake in this election. We need to elect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, and we need to return Mark Warner back to the Senate and Don Beyer, Jennifer Wexton and Gerry Connolly back to the Democratic majority in Washington.
Listen, Fairfax County is the largest concentration of Democratic voters in Virginia. We're bigger than 8 states and the District of Columbia. If Republicans want to depress Democratic turnout, they'd target us. That's why our ask is coming in at this critical hour.
