Hi John,
After this weekend's news, I know it's hard for many of us to think about the future right now.
Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg's death was devastating, both personally and politically. We each would be entirely justified to be feeling brokenhearted, crushed, or even demoralized.
But much like Justice Ginsburg, I am ever the optimist, and we all have some good reason to be. The outpouring of donations, volunteering, and national recommitment to the fight for progress we've seen over these past 48 hours have shown that Democrats and progressives won't let this Supreme Court seat go without a vigorous fight.
If you donated to the Biden campaign or key Senate races over the weekend, here's something you should keep in mind: Our work is connected to this crisis. Here are two big reasons how:
- Our local candidates in Senate battlegrounds will help gin up turnout for their top-of-ticket races. A better-run school board race in Montana could help Steve Bullock; a more competitive state legislative race in Maine could help Sara Gideon.
- The bad laws that end up before the Supreme Court get their start in state legislatures. The more Democrats we elect to state legislatures, the more we can nip these laws in the bud before they even pass.
If you want to meet the moment and take the next step to honor Justice Bader Ginsburg's legacy, chip in $5 or whatever you can to help state and local candidates pick up the torch and fight for our future.

Let's use our pain to fuel our mission for progress.
