Dear John,

I want to share some updates with you from Georgia and across the nation. Here are five things you need to know:

1. U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg passed away on Friday. She was an American hero, a fierce champion for equality and civil rights, and a trailblazer who rose against the odds and dedicated her life to upholding the law. My sincerest condolences to her loved ones and to all who mourn her passing.

2. Hurricane Sally hit the Gulf Coast, damaging communities in Alabama, Florida, and southwest and middle Georgia. Over 28,000 Georgians lost power due to the storm, and at least two have died. I urge you all to stay updated on flood warnings in your area and ensure your family is prepared. I am praying for all who have been affected.

3. September 18th was Black Voter Day, an initiative by 40 partners including the NAACP, Stacey Abrams, and Michelle Obama. We must pursue voting rights and get-out-the-vote efforts among African American communities, who comprise populations large enough to affect our upcoming election. For more, I recommend the recent op-ed written by Senator Kamala Harris: [link removed]. Check your voter registration here: www.mvp.sos.ga.gov/MVP/mvp.do).

4. On a similar note, the United States Census deadline is only two weeks away and Georgia has one of the lowest response rates in the nation. The Census has major effects on districting and community funding for the next ten years, and it is crucial that every community member makes their voice heard. Take the Census here: 2020census.gov/en.html

5. Today I will host a farm tour with local leaders to discuss the needs and priorities of our agricultural communities, particularly in this time of crisis. I am a proud supporter of farmers and ranchers, and I reaffirm my commitment to advocating for agriculture in Congress.

Thank you for reading my messages and for your continued support. Please visit my website for more updates: sanfordbishop.com. Stay well, have a good start to your week, and know that I am working hard for you.

Sincerely,
Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr.
