When COVID-19 hit, Latinos were on the frontlines providing the essential services our communities desperately needed. They kept our grocery stores shelves stocked, the neighborhood taquerias and pharmacies open, and our hospitals and clinics staffed.

Latinos work at a disproportionate number of these vital frontline jobs, putting our communities at a higher risk of contracting the virus and bringing it home. As a result, Latinos are now 2.8 times more likely to be infected and 4.6 times more likely to be hospitalized with COVID-19 than white Americans.

Those numbers are a stark illustration of the challenge we face — and don’t even come close to telling the full story of the pain, loss, and grief that our families and communities now face.
