PFLAG Connects

Dear John:

It's likely not an understatement that this was a difficult weekend for many people across the country, with the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg; our Executive Director Brian K. Bond shared his thoughts in our statement, shared widely on Friday evening. For those who joined our special PFLAG Votes edition PFLAG Connects meeting this past Saturday, you heard all about the ways PFLAG is showing up to get out the vote this year. In the days and weeks ahead, you'll hear more from us about all that is at stake with this election--now, most critically, the Supreme Court.

In the meantime, we offer these ways to connect through Support, Education, and Advocacy. We've got a lot of work to do and we know you'll all rise to meet this challenge!

Hispanic Heritage Month: 8 Queer Latinx Films You Have To Watch

Hispanic Heritage Month: Your Must-See Movie List

Hispanic Heritage Month kicked off on September 15th, and in honor of that month, we've got this great list of Latinx LGBTQ+ films from Charlotte Pride to share. Consider watching one at your next PFLAG Connects meeting and having a discussion about it, or just finding some quiet self-care time to enjoy one for yourself.

Education

Three Steps to Being a Better Voter Education Advocate in Your State (While You’re Stuck at Home)

Just because you’re staying in, and times are tough, doesn't mean your GOTV efforts should stop! So, stay safe and take these steps to engage:

  1. Learn: Go to Vote411.org or Ballot Ready to learn more about what will be on the ballot in your state this November and learn about LGBTQ+ candidates on the ballot in your state.
  2. Watch: Watch (and share) the How to Vote in Every State video for your state and be sure to check out the June PFLAG Academy On-Demand session PFLAG Votes 2020: Our Right and Our Responsibility.
  3. Share: Use emails, texts, and social media to share details about state and local elections that will make a difference and ballot initiatives in your state with your friends and family.

Reminder: Tomorrow is National Voter Registration Day!

Just because you may not be able to organize an in-person voter registration drive tomorrow doesn’t mean that you can’t participate! Online tools can be an effective way to help register voters, reach more and different audiences, and accommodate individuals from all 50 states and DC. Check out these great resources from our friends at National Voter Registration Day, and then put them to good use tomorrow. Together we're going to get out the vote!

Something to Talk About...Live!
