John, at the start of a new school year, I want to ask you an important question: Do you think it's critical for students to reach out to their peers who feel excluded and lonely at school?

When young people experience isolation, bullying or depression, it can put them at risk of harming themselves or others. But we can work together to prevent that by building school cultures that foster positive connections – it can start with something as simple as a "hello," if students know how to identify when their peers are feeling left out.

Students should feel comfortable and safe in schools – right from the beginning of the year. That's why I want to hear from you today, as students are returning to classrooms across the country: Do you think it's important for students to reach out to their peers who feel excluded and lonely at school?

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. Your input and support are invaluable as we work together to move toward a world where children are safe from gun violence.
