President Trump's Middle East envoy, Jason Greenblatt, received a special award at a reception sponsored by the RJC on the occasion of the opening of the US Embassy in Jerusalem, May 2018.

Jason Greenblatt to Step Down

The White House announced this afternoon that US Middle East special envoy Jason Greenblatt plans to resign. JNSreports <[link removed]>:

U.S. Middle East envoy Jason Greenblatt will resign within the coming weeks, announced the White House on Thursday.

Greenblatt, who has played a key role in the Trump administration’s Mideast peace plan for the Israelis and the Palestinians, will remain at the White House for another few weeks until the launch of the political component of the proposal following the Sept. 17 Israeli elections.

...“It has been the honor of a lifetime to have worked in the White House for over two-and-a-half years under the leadership of President [Donald] Trump. I am incredibly grateful to have been part of a team that drafted a vision for peace,” said Greenblatt. “This vision has the potential to vastly improve the lives of millions of Israelis, Palestinians and others in the region.”

JNSquotes the RJC among responses to this news from the Jewish community <[link removed]>:

...While we are sad to see Jason Greenblatt depart the administration, we wish him much continued success in his next chapter. [He] has done an amazing job representing the United States, working tirelessly to bring peace and security between Israel and the Palestinians,” Republican Jewish Coalition executive director Matt Brooks told JNS. “We are grateful to have had the honor of working closely with him and are looking forward to working with his very talented replacement, Avi Berkowitz.

Berkowitz, a deputy to White House senior adviser and presidential son-in-law Jared Kushner, will take over most of Greenblatt’s duties, though U.S. special representative for Iran Brian Hook will also take on some.

How Israel Responds on Five Fronts

Shmuel Rosner at the Jewish Journal writes that Israel faces enemies on five fronts <[link removed]>:

Consider this: There are attacks, counterattacks, maneuvers and threats. Israel is active on five fronts: the West Bank, where violence is contained and yet the situation is volatile; Gaza, where violence threatens to erupt daily; Syria, where Iranian forces keep trying to form a base against Israel that Israel won’t allow; Lebanon, where pro-Iranian forces feel compelled to act in response to Israeli actions; and Iraq, where Israel reportedly operates as part of the war against Iranian expansion.

Fiamma Nirenstein, writing at The Algemeiner, makes clear that Iran is behind much of the threat <[link removed]> on Israel's borders:

Iran’s efforts to entrench itself on Israel’s borders have gradually made it a constant presence for Israelis. Hamas and Islamic Jihad in the south, and Hezbollah in the north, are all funded and armed by this leading state sponsor of terrorism. An explosion is always around the corner, and Israel must often act swiftly to contain the threat, as was the case on Sunday, when Israel foiled an attack by Hezbollah.

Beyond its permanent presence in Lebanon and Gaza, Iran is also seeking to entrench itself in Syria. It is already a prominent presence in Iraq (where Israel has reportedly attacked Iran-linked weapons depots and militias) and is fighting a war in Yemen against Saudi Arabia using its Houthi proxies.

It is vital to remember that the Islamic Republic considers the entire Western world to be its enemy, which must be defeated in order to establish a global Islamic empire.

How does Israel deal with this reality? Through an innovative military approach called "Campaign Between Wars" or CBW. Lt. Gen. Gadi Eisenkot and Col. Gabi Siboni (Res.) offer an analysis of CBW, published by the Washington Institute. They write <[link removed]>:

Deviating from the binary approach of either preparing for war or openly waging it, the CBW strives for proactive, offensive actions based on extremely high-quality intelligence and clandestine efforts. The strategy’s main goals are straightforward:

- Delay war and deter enemies by constantly weakening their force buildup processes and damaging their assets and capabilities.
- Enhance Israel’s legitimacy for exertion of force while damaging the enemy’s legitimacy, in part by exposing clandestine military activities that violate international law.
- Create optimal conditions for the IDF if war finally does come.

... The doctrine has greatly strengthened Israeli deterrence against its regional enemies, reduced threats to the state and its citizens, and improved the IDF’s capabilities. It has also led to a broad and sustained initiative against the region’s most destabilizing actors: Iran’s Qods Force, Hezbollah, and the Islamic State.

...As for Israel itself, the CBW has enabled a robust period of security and prosperity, especially since the last major Gaza conflict in 2014. These gains are reflected in the economy, the tourism sector, and the continued development seen in Israel’s southern and northern regions. The campaign has enjoyed international support, gained freedom of action (facilitated by an understanding with the United States and Russia), and improved regional cooperation. Meanwhile, the IDF has seen unprecedented strengthening of its readiness for war, including increased armaments and reserves. Israel aims to continue the CBW in the future, refining it according to regional developments.

Iranian judoka Saeid Mollaei

Iranian Judoka Pressured Not to Fight Israeli

Reuters reports <[link removed]>:

An Iranian judoka is refusing to return home over fears for his safety after he ignored orders from his national federation to pull out of fights to avoid a potential final meeting with an Israeli, the International Judo Federation said on Monday.

The IJF said Saeid Mollaei was pressured by Iranian authorities to drop out of his quarter-final and semi-finals at the world judo championships in Tokyo last week to avoid fighting Israel’s Sagi Muki in the final. [Mollaei lost in the semi-final; Muki went on to win the title.]

...This is not the first time athletes from Arab nations or Iran have been ordered to pull out or refuse to compete with Israeli athletes in Olympics or other international competitions.

“Today, the National Olympic Committee of Iran and the Sport Minister told me to not compete, that I had to comply with the law,” Mollaei said in the IJF statement.

“I am a fighter. I want to compete wherever I can. I live in a country whose law does not permit me to. We have no choice, all athletes must comply with it. All I did today was for my life, for a new life.”

He said he was not planning to return to the Islamic Republic at the moment for fear of his safety and had asked IJF President Marius Vizer to help find a solution.

The International Judo Federation gives a dramatic account <[link removed]> of the Iranian regime's efforts to pressure Mollaei, including threatening his family, to force him to drop out of the competition.

Anti-ICE “Never Again Action” Not The Spontaneous Grassroots Group It Claims To Be <[link removed]>Over the past several months, Never Again Action (NAA), a purportedly spontaneous grassroots Jewish group, has burst into the public eye by staging and videotaping protests at Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and other government facilities across the country.

But, as a joint investigation by the Legal Insurrection Foundation and the Washington Free Beacon has revealed, NAA is not what it purports to be. NAA is a repackaging of the same activists who organize with far-left, anti-Israel groups such as IfNotNow (INN), American Muslims for Palestine (AMP), Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP), and Code Pink. There is every reason to believe that these obsessive anti-Israel activists have a hidden agenda: to insert themselves at the forefront of the immigration issue to hijack the movement and turn it against Israel.

Ban Everything! <[link removed]>
