Hey --
Last night our Democratic presidential candidates made history. For the first time ever, a prime-time town hall was broadcast on
CNN that focused exclusively on climate change.
While I have not yet made a decision on who to support, I am proud to see each of the candidates present ideas on how to combat global warming and grow our economy. It was refreshing to hear from leaders who have plans grounded in policy and science instead of conspiracy theories and fossil fuel industry talking points.
There's no denying that climate change is real, it's happening now, and if we don't act soon the damage will be irreversible. That’s why I’m not waiting for the 2020 election to take on this crisis.
I believe we have a moral imperative to combat climate change now and bring down carbon emissions to protect our planet for future generations, all while ensuring our workforce is prepared for the changing clean energy economy.
If you believe we must act on climate change to leave our world better for future generations, add your name to become a citizen co-sponsor of my bill, the Green Jobs and Opportunity Act.
The Green Jobs and Opportunity Act, which I introduced last month with Representative Mark Pocan, gives us a roadmap to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 and provides investments to ensure our current workforce can capitalize on new, green energy opportunities.
We’ll do this by analyzing the green jobs market and collaborating with labor unions, educational institutions, employers, and environmental advocates to invest in job training and placement so all workers have an opportunity to realize the potential of the green economy.
By working together, we can ensure the U.S. and Upstate New York have a workforce prepared to meet the energy needs of tomorrow.
If you’re backing a 2020 presidential candidate because you’re concerned about climate change and whether America will be a leader in the green jobs economy, I hope you’ll also work alongside me to get the Green Jobs and Opportunity Act passed before they take office.
Add your name as a citizen co-sponsor today.
Thank you,
