John,
Giving Day is the day we ask our most dedicated and generous
supporters to make a special contribution to support all the vital
work we do. This
year, Giving Day is next Saturday, September 26, and we've set a goal to raise $20,000 by the end of the day.

September 26 is National Public Lands Day, established nearly 26
years ago to bring together "hundreds of thousands of individual
and organizational volunteers to help restore the country's
public lands."
That goal fits right in with our core mission: to create parks and
protect land for people. So we set September 26 as Giving Day, and
today as the start of our Giving Day Campaign.

If we've learned anything during this year, it's that
from wilderness areas to neighborhood parks, public lands let us
interact with nature in a way that is fundamental to our mental,
physical, and spiritual health.
Unfortunately, the opportunity to experience these benefits is
disappearing at an alarming rate. The U.S. Forest Service has reported
that 6,000 acres of open space are disappearing every day. Millions
more acres are being opened up to drilling, mining, and other reckless
exploitation.
John, this
is why you know how important it is to protect and preserve public
lands. With all the threats they face today, I hope you will take part
in our Giving Day Campaign.
