Act to carry on Justice Ginsburg's legacy.
Generation Progress

Hey John,

Friday evening, it was reported that Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg passed away from complications of cancer. Justice Ginsburg was a feminist icon who inspired generations of young people to stand up for what’s right and get involved in politics.

According to press reports, just days before her death, Justice Ginsburg dictated a statement to her granddaughter, Clara Spera: “My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed.

But within hours of her death, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell stated that Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominee would get a vote in the Senate, despite the fact that he blocked President Obama’s nomination of Merrick Garland for nearly a year.

This cannot stand. We owe it to Justice Ginsburg to fight to see her wish is carried out. Under no circumstances should the Senate consider a replacement for Justice Ginsburg until after inauguration.

TAKE ACTION NOW

Let’s be clear: Trump and McConnell are determined to take away young people’s access to health care and they are particularly determined to take away reproductive rights including access to abortion.

Despite overwhelming support for health care access including abortion access, they see this Supreme Court vacancy as their opportunity and they are willing to violate all norms in order to confirm a new Supreme Court Justice.

Never before in United States history has a Senate confirmed a Supreme Court nominee this late in an election year. In states across America, people have already begun voting in the 2020 election.

Email key Republican Senators and demand that they publicly state that they will not support a confirmation vote until the next presidential term begins.

In solidarity,
