I have to admit it, I spent the afternoon and evening eviscerated.
To lose a true warrior for equality and justice at this critical moment is just too much. Everything we’ve worked for -- decades of progress -- now hangs in the balance. I don’t know about you, but just knowing Ruth Bader Ginsburg was still in the fight helped me sleep at night.
Her memory lives on, and we will honor her by FIGHTING ON.
Justice Ginsburg said it best--”Fight for the things that you care about, but do it in a way that will lead others to join you.” It’s in that spirit I’m reaching out to you today. Now, more than ever, we need each other.
If you never do another thing in this fight for justice and equality, you must do this.
First, contact both of your Senators and tell them: no new Supreme Court justice before the inauguration.
Tell them, “Do not replace Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the court until after the inauguration in 2021. With only weeks until the election, the American people should get the chance to have a say in who’s on the Supreme Court. Let the election decide it. Anything other than this is tyranny.
If the Senate goes against the precedent THEY established on 2016, all options will be on the table if we win the election. This election will be a referendum on their action, and the will of the people will not be ignored.”
Then, we will call, we will peacefully surrounding their offices.
Call daily. Organize calling parties. Make signs. Put on your mask, get out in the street. Be notorious. Make this your commitment, make this how you honor the memory of RBG.
Make it clear that if they vote to confirm a new Supreme Court Justice, WE will vote them and their party into oblivion. It may not sound like a lot, but it’s all we have, and it is imperative that every single American do this.
In her dying words, Justice Ginsburg said, “My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new President is installed.” Let’s join as one and honor that wish.
