Friend -- Vox released a report outlining 11 ways to fix America's fundamentally broken democracy. And, of course, ending gerrymandering made the list!

This Vox report took the approach of adopting big, structural change by endorsing the independent redistricting commissions outlined in the "For the People Act" (HR 1) -- comprehensive democracy reform legislation that the House passed last year.

"Gerrymandering renders many legislative elections irrelevant -- in 2018, Republicans won nearly two-thirds of the seats in the Wisconsin state assembly, even though Democratic candidates received 54 percent of the popular vote." -- Vox 09/14/2020

For the past several months, the AOTL team has been working tirelessly to end map manipulation by hosting info sessions on independent commissions in states like Colorado and Arizona. We believe in the power of putting state maps in the hands of the people instead of politicians.

But to expand our outreach efforts with additional trainings and advocacy tools, we'll need more resources -- especially as we enter this next phase. Can we count on you to chip in, whatever makes sense to you, to support our work?

Educating folks about independent commissions and their states' redistricting process is powerfully important in the runup to map drawing -- the next decade of state maps are on the line!

Our team is helping people get connected to resources, apply to serve on commissions, and advocate for fair lines when commissions ask for public input on proposed maps. We're also combating multimillion-dollar schemes to suppress the vote and put anti-fair map candidates in charge of the redistricting process.
