AG Candidate Raph Graybill Statement on Attorney General Fox’s Attack on Reproductive Rights
MONTANA - Democratic candidate for Attorney General Raph Graybill today released a statement blasting the current Montana Attorney General for signing an activist brief ([link removed]) to roll back protections for women seeking access to healthcare services for abortion after 20 weeks, in direct conflict with the Montana Constitution.
“I’m shocked. The Montana Attorney General’s most important job is defending our constitution. Women and their families need the freedom to make the best medical decisions for their circumstances —they don’t deserve to pay the price for the Attorney General’s out-of-touch political agenda,” Graybill said. “Attorney General Fox would do well to read the Montana Supreme Court's decision in Armstrong v. State before joining with out-of-state activists to undermine our Constitution and its protections for reproductive freedom.”
The Armstrong
decision ([link removed]) held that the Montana Constitution "guarantees each individual the right to make medical judgments affecting her or his bodily integrity and health in partnership with a chosen health care provider free from the interference of the government, except in very limited circumstances not at issue here. More narrowly, we hold that Article II, Section 10, protects a woman's right of procreative autonomy-here, the right to seek and to obtain a specific lawful medical procedure, a pre-viability abortion, from a health care provider of her choice."
